My new one of kind quilt with the Celebration block!

In the beginning of this year, I promised myself to design 6 sampler blocks to complete the Davis’ Sampler quilts. So far, I have designed 4 blocks, and this Celebration block is my most used block! Recently, I made a 72”x72”, throw size quilt with this block. My celebration block features the bold out line and the customizable center. I have a tutorial post for this block here if you are interested in.

I used EQ8 to design this pattern

My original main color theme was “Coral and Teal”. But, as you can see the photos, it is more like dark blue with a touch of pink, which I don’t mind. But, I wish I could make one very similar to my pattern image.

Finished quilt top before quilting

Choosing fabrics is always challenging to me, and I ended up with Fat Quarter bundle (Watercolor Blossoms Artisan by Robert Kaufman) that had similar shades/tone I wanted. I liked most of the FQs in the bundle. The one I really liked was the coral pink, and I wanted to use for the borders. But, I just couldn’t find the enough yardage of that fabric, and ended up using dark blue instead.

As you noticed, I added some space between the blocks, because I wanted to throw some fabulous quilting designs!

I started sketching some options using dry erase markers and plexiglass on the quilt top. I found this method is better than using an app. I think it gives more realistic preview of the design.

Auditioning quilting designs

And, it is loaded! I did my best to make it as square as possible from the beginning to the end, and I could see I did a good job of it. I used wool batting, which is my favorite and Glide 40wt thread.

As I mentioned above, I love wool batting. I love how it shows the quilting details. However, I had hard time when I used wool batting for the first time. Maybe I will write a post about it later. But, in this post I want you to enjoy my quilt!

My dog, Charles loves it!

How do you like the borders?

Thank you for enjoying the post!
