Davis' Sampler Block 1 **Celebration** Tutorial
I am so excited to design my own sampler blocks and share with you 🙌, and this is the first one to start! I named this block Celebration. It contains Half Square Triangle units, Flying Geese, and Four/Nine patch to complete the block. I hope you have fun making this block!
** I prefer using traditional methods of cutting and piecing. I think it gives me accurate block size, and saves me a good deal of fabric.
** I also prepare my fabrics by starching and steam iron them before cutting.
** Set the seams as you prefer. But, I set the seams away from the background.
So, let's get started!
To begin with, I divided the block into 3 mini blocks - Block 1 (B1) x 4, Block 2 (B2) x 4, Block 3 (B3) x 1, and used 3 different fabrics - Dark print, Light print, and White background.

Sewing Instruction
B1
1. Cut the Fabric B, C, and D squares once diagonally to make Half Square Triangles. (Since the fabric F and H from B2 also require this process, you may want to do all together.)
2. With right sides together, stitch 8 sets of triangle B and C, and 4 sets of triangle C and D.
3. Press the seams and trip the edges (dog ears).
4. Right sides together stitch 4 sets of square A and B/C Half Square Triangle units. Press.
5. Right sides together stitch 4 sets of B/C Half Square Triangle units and C/D Half Square Triangle units as shown. Press.
6. Assemble step 4 and 5 with right sides together as shown in the picture.
B2
1. Cut the Fabric E and G squares twice diagonally to make 4 Quarter Square Triangles.
2. Layer a Triangle F facing down to Triangle E aligning the diagonal lines together. Sew on the diagonal line with 1/4 inch seam allowance. And, repeat with Triangle G and H. Note that in this step, we only need to sew one side by chain piecing.
3. Press to set the seams.
4. Repeat Step 1 and 2. But this time layer a triangle F to the other side of Triangle E. Then, press and trip the edges.
5. Assemble a F/E Flying Geese and G/H Flying Geese right side together as shown in the diagram.
Putting all together
6. Lay out all the mini blocks as shown in the picture below. Sew one row at a time, or two mini blocks from each row by chain piecing. And add the last blocks later.
7. Complete the block as shown in the diagram.
There we go! We finished a Celebration block! 🙌 Hope you enjoyed making this block!
Hope to see you soon with a new block soon 😊
