Quilting the Flowering Gum Quilt (CLIENT QUILT)

One of the exciting things about being a longarm quilter is to get to quilt such cool quilts you wish to make someday. This happened to me recently again — Flowering Gum Quilt made by Sophia (my client).

I love this quilt design by Ruth de Vos . I purchased her pattern book a while ago, and I found that she used a very unique technique to make this quilt. The result is as you can see incredibly artistic.

My client used her own selection of solid fabric, and they blended so well. They were mainly dyed linen, and I think it added more natural look.

Quilting Designs

Once I got the quilt top, I sketched out a few options based on what my client’s input. Most of them were organic designs rather than distinct motifs. Brainstorming the design ideas went very smoothly since my client had a very clear idea for her quilt.

Finally, we decided to go with wavy lines for the background and leaves.

Quilting Process

Once the designs were set, the fun time began - Quilting! I stitched the ditch the out lines, main pieces, and some of the pieces that quilting might have missed. I used curved rulers from Julia Quiltoff.

All wavy lines were done hand guided, and curved lines on the flowers were ruler work. For the flowers I didn’t space exactly even to make more natural look.

Isn’t it gorgeous ? I am very happy with the result. Thank you for checking my blog, and let me know if you have quilts that deserve custom quilting! I would love to work with you!
