Quilting Sampler Quilt —Truly One of a Kind
Finally, finally, finally, I finished this Quilting Sampler Quilt! You can’t imagine how happy I am (to finish this quilt!). I wish I am good at naming quilts. It is a very special project to me, but I just can’t name it! So, I will just call it Quilting Sampler Quilt since that was one of the purposes of this quilt.
When I started planning on this quilt, I had an idea where I could add quilting as a part of the whole structure. More specifically, I had an image in my head where curved pieces like ribbon, and the quilting going around with the pieces. Also, I wanted to use quilting motifs as independent blocks. So, as playing around with the EQ8, I came up with this basic design.
Pickle Dish block was a great choice for my project. It wasn’t too complicated to make, and also I got to experience foundation paper piecing. It was very fun process, and I will definitely make more quilts with foundation paper piecing.
So, here are the 4 quilting sampler blocks I made. As much as I like free motion organic style quilting, I tend to go for “framing”. It makes me feel completed, if you know what I mean.
Although I did have an opportunity to explore different types of designs and techniques while quilting it, I wish I balanced the density better. As you notice the mini mandala is noticeably heavier than the other three blocks. Also, it might’ve helped if I added frame around the quilting blocks so that the audience can recognize them separately right away.
Another thing I wish I gave a second thought is thread choice. Using contrast thread certainly gives a dramatic loo. But, it shows my mistakes so obviously.
My favorite parts are the borders and the center block. I am very pleased with the borders!
I hope you enjoyed my quilting! Thank you!
