Custom Quilting on Double Wedding Ring (Client Quilt)
One of the joys of being a longarm quilter is the opportunity to work on a diverse range of quilts, each with its own story and personality. My client made this quilt as a wedding gift for her cousin, and this is a perfect example to add my client’s personal style. When I suggested custom quilting on her quilt rather than all over design, my client understood merit of custom quilting, and was willing to move forward with custom quilting.
Double Wedding Ring Block
Before quilting, I came up with a few design choices, including echo lines, feathers, crosshatching, and swirls. My client chose the orange peel, which was a surprising but perfect choice! It turned out absolutely fabulous!
Quilting
The quilting is done by combination of ruler work and free motion quilting. Fortunately, the wedding ring pattern wasn’t so off from my curved ruler. Using one ruler really made the process fast. I used size 4 ruler from Julia Quiltoff.
My client’s piecing was very neatly done that I didn’t have to use lots of marking for the grid quilting. I only marked a couple of center points with a purple disappearing pen, and used a straight ruler with marking lines.
I used 80/20 from Quilter’s Dream and 40w Glide threads. I personally prefer wool batting for my projects to emphasize the quilting texture. But, 80/20 worked out very well as you can see. All quilting is done by hand guided on my Bernina Q24. (I have a review post here on this machine if you are interested in)
